ELTA: Briefly: The Seimas approves LRT amendments, KAM deputy minister T. Godliauskas resigns from his post

The Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas) passed amendments to the law governing the management of the Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) on Tuesday, following extensive deliberations and amidst ongoing public protests. The legislative changes were approved by 77 members of the Seimas, with only one dissenting vote from the ruling LSDP faction. Separately, in other developments, the deputy minister of national defense, Tomas Godliauskas, announced his resignation from his post.

In business news, the President’s chief adviser, Vaidas Augustinavičius, addressed the economic impact of rising energy costs originating from the Middle East. Augustinavičius suggested that it might be prudent to temporarily reinstate the exemption from the value-added tax (VAT) specifically for centralized heating systems. The passage of the amendments concerning the LRT marks a significant legislative action regarding the management structure of the national broadcaster.

These changes were finalized after a prolonged period of discussion within the Seimas.
