ELTA presents the “Knowledge for All” section: news presented in easy-to-understand language

ELTA has introduced a novel technological feature in Lithuania, marking a first in the country for the simplification of news content. According to ELTA chief editor Gailė Jaruševičiūtė-Mockuvienė, the system utilizes artificial intelligence to reformat texts into an easily understandable language for the public. The primary goal of this initiative is to enhance accessibility, ensuring that complex information is conveyed clearly to a broader audience.

However, the process maintains a rigorous editorial standard. Jaruševičiūtė-Mockuvienė stressed that despite the integration of AI, human oversight remains paramount. She confirmed that every text prepared in the simplified language format undergoes a thorough review and mandatory approval by an editor before it can be published.

“Of course, there has to be a person behind all these things who watches, supervises, engages, and corrects,” she stated. This emphasis confirms that technology serves as an aid, not a replacement, for journalistic judgment. The integration of AI into the workflow, while streamlining the creation of simplified language versions, does not compromise the reliability or factual integrity of the reporting.

ELTA’s commitment involves ensuring that all published materials, regardless of the technology used in their preparation, meet high standards of accuracy. This layered approach—combining advanced AI tools with dedicated editorial review—is designed to improve public comprehension while upholding the trust placed in ELTA. The system ensures that all content remains factually sound through continuous human monitoring.
