For S. Skvernelis, a severe deterrent measure: you will have to wear a mask

Elena Martinonienė, head of the General Prosecutor’s Office Communications Department, confirmed that S. Skvernelis has been assigned a specific preventive measure. Speaking to LRT.lt, Martinonienė stated, “We confirm that the preventive measure specified in your inquiry has been assigned to this person,” when questioned regarding Skvernelis’s requirement to wear an electronic monitoring device.

Professor Raimundas Jurka of Mykolo Romerio University provided context on the technology involved. According to Jurka, an electronic monitoring device facilitates location control and time restrictions. He explained that such a device enables the monitoring of an individual’s whereabouts and dictates specific times and locations where the person is permitted or prohibited from visiting.

This development follows the initiation of an investigation into a corruption case concerning the State Plant Protection Service (VAT). The inquiry was launched based on suspicions of corruption involving the former official. The announcement regarding the preventive measure against Skvernelis indicates that judicial oversight is now controlling his movements.

The requirement for him to wear the electronic device imposes strict parameters on his daily activities. Authorities confirmed the implementation of this specific measure, detailing the scope of restrictions that must be adhered to. The ongoing investigation into the VAT corruption case remains a central focus, with the judicial oversight mechanisms now dictating the terms under which Skvernelis can operate.
