From July 1st – changes: it becomes clear which serious diseases patients can withdraw from pension accumulation

The Ministry of Health is revising the official classification of serious illnesses to refine the criteria for discontinuing pension accumulation. According to the acting Minister of Health, Marija Jakubauskienė, these amendments are designed to ensure that the benefit is accurately provided only to patients whose medical condition necessitates and justifies such a measure. The development of these revisions followed a comprehensive review process that incorporated input from multiple stakeholders, including patient advocacy groups, medical professionals, and the general public.

The objective, the Minister stated, is to create an updated regulatory framework that more accurately mirrors the complex reality and specific needs of individuals living with chronic or severe health conditions. The Ministry emphasized that it is undertaking a careful assessment of the current situation facing patients with serious illnesses. The goal is to establish legal regulations that are better adapted to the lived experiences of those with extremely difficult health profiles.

By revising the list of qualifying illnesses, the updated guidelines aim to enhance the system’s responsiveness, ensuring that the support structure for patients with debilitating conditions is both appropriate and sustainable. This adjustment is intended to improve the overall care continuum and better address the multifaceted requirements of the affected population.
