G. Meloni: The Italian government will not try to ban social networks for children

Speaking to journalists following the G7 summit in France, G. Meloni indicated that while she is not opposed to a restriction on social networks for users under the age of 16, she questioned whether such a measure constitutes the definitive solution to the underlying issues. Meloni expressed concern that implementing a complete ban could prove easily circumvented.

Furthermore, she warned that if governments fail to increase pressure on the platforms themselves to assume greater responsibility, the burden of oversight risks being improperly transferred to families. For these reasons, Meloni stated that her government has opted not to submit a legislative bill or draft law advocating for the prohibition.
