G. Nausėda hopes that the issue of Ukraine’s NATO membership will return to the Alliance’s agenda

President G. Nausėda stated that concerning Russia, the nation reportedly only respects military power. However, the head of state elaborated that military strength extends beyond mere weaponry or technology; it also requires a robust political will.

According to Nausėda, a credible deterrent must rely on the combination of both these elements. Given this geopolitical environment, the President emphasized that a primary objective for the region is strengthening the collective defense and deterrence capabilities of the alliance. He asserted that sustained investment in defense and deterrence is crucial for ensuring continued peace.

Nausėda referenced past geopolitical tensions, such as those observed during the 2018 NATO summit. Furthermore, the President addressed the role of Ukraine in Euro-Atlantic security, stating that the country’s contribution is significant. Consequently, Nausėda urged that the allies must maintain their military support for Kyiv.

He concluded by reiterating the necessity of ongoing assistance, stating that support for Ukraine must continue. These statements underscore the President’s view that maintaining security requires a comprehensive commitment that is not solely focused on hardware, but also on unified political resolve within the broader security alliance.
