G. Nausėda: K. Budrio future will depend on his work on relations with China and Taiwan

During a press conference in Brussels on Thursday, G. Nausėda outlined the criteria that will be used to assess the success of Mr. Budrys’s ongoing activities.

He stated that key areas requiring immediate attention include the normalization of diplomatic relations with China. Nausėda noted that achieving the ambitious goals previously agreed upon with Chinese counterparts is a necessary implementation step. He emphasized that for everything to proceed smoothly, these specific issues must be thoroughly reviewed for satisfactory progress.

Consequently, Nausėda indicated that Mr. Budrys’s continued tenure is contingent upon meeting these benchmarks; otherwise, the situation would be re-evaluated. While acknowledging Mr.

Budrys as a high-performing minister, Nausėda stressed that the decisions made by all ministers must ultimately be guided by the overarching interests of the state. Regarding his professional relationship with the official, Nausėda added that he had never disagreed with Mr. Budrys on any matter.

The focus, therefore, remains on measurable progress, particularly concerning the complex trajectory of Lithuania’s relations with China, which will dictate future policy directions.
