Following a severe storm that caused widespread damage across Vilnius, local authorities provided updates on the recovery efforts. Photographer Lrytas noted that on Sunday morning, the Avižienių viaduct remained submerged. Mayor of the Vilnius district, Robert Duchnevič, also addressed residents regarding the impact of the weather event.
Duchnevič stated that the storm resulted in considerable damage, with the most significant consequences reported in the Avižienė and Riešė districts. He confirmed that emergency services are on site and continuously coordinating efforts. Authorities have notified contractors, and the immediate focus is clearing main thoroughfares by removing obstacles, such as fallen trees, to restore passage.
Less critical repairs are scheduled to continue the following day. The storm devastated parts of the city, and the scale of the damage is evident across multiple areas. Furthermore, the power grid experienced failures, which ESO is actively working to resolve.
In addition to main roads, damage has been reported in residential areas, including blocked access points near garages. Duchnevič urged residents to report any areas where assistance is still required and where services have been unable to reach. The commitment remains to systematically address the fallout from the storm.
The city’s infrastructure is being assessed to ensure all necessary services can resume normal operations efficiently.
