I. Ruginienė: NATO’s true strength is our people, resilience and courage to not give in to fear

Addressing members of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) at the Seimas on Monday, I. Ruginienė delivered a message affirming the collective commitment of democratic nations. She stated that the presence of allies sends a clear signal: democracy stands together, and the alliance remains united, strong, and prepared to defend shared security and core values.

Ruginienė specifically highlighted that Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine presents a challenge that extends beyond European security concerns. According to her address, this aggression directly threatens fundamental principles, including freedom, sovereignty, and international law. For Lithuania, the alliance is described as an essential element of national security.

However, she elaborated that the scope of NATO is broader than mere military capacity. She characterized the organization as a community built upon trust, shared responsibility, solidarity, and democratic values. The speech underscored the foundational importance of collective defense mechanisms.

Ruginienė emphasized that the commitment to these shared principles binds the member states together. The continued adherence to these democratic standards is crucial for maintaining stability in the region. The structure of NATO, therefore, represents more than a military pact; it embodies a shared commitment to upholding international norms against external pressures.
