Authorities have detained two vehicles following inspections that raised concerns regarding potential violations of international sanctions. The first incident involved a lightweight Audi Q7 that was traced to Belarus. During the inspection, authorities suspected that the vehicle might have entered Belarus by circumventing existing sanctions and was subsequently brought back into the European Union illegally.
The driver was unable to provide documentation verifying the vehicle’s original source or export history. The second detained vehicle was a Volkswagen Kombi. Upon inspection at the control point, it was discovered that the vehicle had undergone a change in its state registration numbers.
Furthermore, the vehicle was found to be simultaneously registered in both Lithuania and Russia. This led to suspicions that the Kombi was illegally exported to Russia, thereby violating sanctions. In both instances, the focus of the investigation centered on the movement of the vehicles and compliance with international trade restrictions.
The inability of the driver of the Audi Q7 to substantiate the vehicle’s provenance, combined with the dual registration of the Kombi, prompted the authorities to take immediate action. These detentions highlight ongoing efforts to monitor and enforce sanctions compliance regarding the movement of goods and personal transport across borders.
