In Rotterdam, tramway collided with a bridge, 15 people injured

The Erasmus Bridge, a major structure in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, serves as a vital crossing over the Maas River and functions as a significant transport hub. On the day in question, cameras captured footage of a tram traveling across the bridge when both the tram and the bridge sustained damage. Debris was reported scattered across the traffic lanes.

Consequently, authorities immediately cordoned off the area and closed the bridge in both directions. Emergency services responded rapidly to the scene, with numerous rescuers arriving to assist with the evacuation of the injured. Initially, Rotterdam authorities reported that 18 individuals had been injured.

However, later reports, including those from the NOS national broadcaster, revised this figure, stating that 15 people were injured. One severely injured person required immediate transport to a hospital. The incident significantly impacted the operation of this key Rotterdam infrastructure.

The closure of the Erasmus Bridge caused immediate disruptions to local transit networks. Emergency personnel worked to manage the aftermath while ensuring the safety of those affected by the structural incident.
