In the “Čekiukų” case, suspicions have been raised against members of the Marijampolė and Trakų municipalities’ councils

The prosecutor’s office and the Special Investigations Service (SIS) jointly announced findings regarding alleged misuse of public funds involving a former member of the Marijampolė City Council. According to the law enforcement agency’s report, A. Zdanys, who served on the City Council from 2019 to 2021, is accused of abusing his official position.

The investigation focused on an expenses summary submitted by Mr. Zdanys during his tenure as a council member. It was alleged that the summary contained data regarding fuel costs that did not accurately reflect reality.

Authorities contend that this submission of inflated or incorrect data resulted in a financial loss amounting to 985 euros for the Marijampolė City Council. Following these findings, the prosecutor’s office has initiated legal action, seeking compensation from six municipal council members on behalf of the Regional State Administration. Furthermore, the Regional State Administration has formally requested that the Regional State Audit Office annul a previous decision concerning a “cheque” that was issued by the Mayor of Marijampolė, P.

Isodas. These actions highlight ongoing scrutiny over financial accountability within local governance structures. The investigation underscores the legal mechanisms in place to recover funds when elected officials or council members are accused of financial misconduct while serving the city.

The legal proceedings aim to ensure that all expenditures reported to the regional state administration adhere strictly to verifiable financial standards.
