Scientists recently analyzed the human remains of individuals buried at the Russian quarter of the Castle Street cemetery, dating back to the XIII-XIV centuries. The examination of 15 sets of remains provided significant insights into the community’s demographics.
The scientists concluded that the adult males interred at the site exhibited high levels of mobility, suggesting they were likely migrants rather than local inhabitants. A particular focus was placed on one young male whose dental analysis revealed dietary patterns consistent with regions south of Lithuania. These findings lead researchers to hypothesize that this individual may have originated from the area associated with Kyiv Rus.
