Routine monitoring procedures are being implemented to ensure strict adherence to punishment enforcement protocols, assess the compliance of convicted individuals, and reinforce overall public security within correctional facilities. Recently, a series of comprehensive checks were conducted involving 38 officials who inspected a total of 118 convicts. These proactive monitoring efforts identified several instances of violations across five different regions managed by the Lithuanian penitentiary service.
During the inspections, officials documented multiple breaches of the imposed conditions. Specifically, five convicts were found to be intoxicated due to the consumption of alcohol or other psychoactive substances. As a direct consequence of these infractions, the individuals were immediately returned to the facilities where they are serving their sentences.
Furthermore, the checks revealed attempts by some convicts to circumvent established regulations, particularly concerning the use of electronic devices. Officials noted that some individuals were employing sophisticated methods to bypass established rules. More concerningly, four convicts were unaccounted for during the monitoring period; they were not present at their designated residences, despite being required to report there according to the terms of their short-term leave stipulations.
The findings underscore the ongoing need for rigorous oversight. The detected violations highlight both substance misuse and failures in adhering to mandatory reporting requirements, prompting immediate corrective action by the penitentiary service to maintain the integrity of the sentence enforcement process.
