K. Budrys says that the new EU sanctions package against Russia is not ambitious enough

Speaking to journalists in Luxembourg on Monday, K. Budrys addressed the ongoing discussions at the EU Foreign Affairs Council (URT), where key topics include community support for Ukraine and measures aimed at increasing pressure on Russia, particularly sanctions. Budrys expressed a call for decisive action, noting that Lithuania proposed the inclusion of approximately 60 entities within the sanctions package, naming major energy corporations such as Rosatom, Rosneft, and Lukoil.

He urged his colleagues to move beyond preliminary discussions, stating that the bloc must actively take concrete measures rather than repeatedly pausing. Furthermore, the Minister confirmed Lithuania’s full support for proposing the sanctioning of Russian soldiers who participated in the war in Ukraine, advocating for measures that would prohibit their entry into the EU. However, Budrys also acknowledged that achieving consensus on this specific measure remains a necessary step.

The overarching goal of the URT discussions, as reported by Budrys, is to solidify a unified and robust response to geopolitical challenges. His remarks underscored Lithuania’s commitment to strengthening EU cohesion through tangible policy implementation, emphasizing the need for member states to translate intentions into actionable outcomes.
