In addition to air defense enhancements, the acting minister highlighted anticipated agreements with Norway regarding the purchase of modular ships. Kaunas explained that these vessels offer versatile platforms crucial for safeguarding both the port of Klaipėda and associated sea lanes. Modular design allows for the integrated deployment of multiple defense systems, including drone and anti-drone capabilities, as well as comprehensive air and coastal defense measures.
The focus on upgrading defense infrastructure reflects a broader strategic assessment. Kaunas noted the necessity of rebuilding national security frameworks in light of perceived shifts in regional influence.
