During a recent incident, a rescue service official noted the assistance provided to a woman by a doctor, followed by her transport to a vehicle. Addressing the public safety concerns at the beach, Aleksandras Siakki, head of the Klaipėda rescue service, highlighted several persistent dangers observed during the day. Siakki pointed out that despite visible warning signs regarding underwater hazards, holidaymakers frequently ignore these cautions while swimming.
A primary concern remains the unsupervised activity of children swimming. Furthermore, he noted instances where parents themselves were sustaining injuries. The official stressed that while beachgoers may heed advice from rescue personnel, unsafe behaviors often resume once the immediate supervision is lifted.
He issued strong recommendations for beach safety. Siakki advised parents that if they visit the beach purely for rest without their children, they should come unaccompanied. Conversely, if they bring their children, active and constant supervision is mandatory.
Beyond general vigilance, Siakki also cautioned vulnerable populations. He suggested that older adults and individuals with existing health conditions should avoid visiting the beach during the peak hours between 11:00 and 17:00. Instead, these groups are advised to visit either early in the morning or late in the evening to mitigate risks associated with swimming and general exposure.
