Results from this year’s academic assessments indicate an improvement compared to the previous year across several metrics in the field of mathematics. Data from the advanced (A) mathematics course shows that over 14,000 students participated in the recent exam. The passing rate for this advanced level reached 85.1%, marking an increase from the 84.5% recorded last year.
Furthermore, 210 candidates, representing 1.5% of all test-takers, achieved the maximum score of 100 points. A notable increase in participation was also observed in the general (B) course exam. This year, 77.1% of registered students took the exam, a significant rise from the 57.1% participation rate seen in the previous year.
Commenting on the structure of the public evaluations, mathematics teacher Naglis Alška noted that the assessment process this year was characterized by consistency and predictability. According to Alška, the results were primarily determined by the students’ individual preparation rather than unexpected elements within the exam itself. He observed that the types of tasks, topics, and overall difficulty level closely mirrored those found in previous years’ exams.
He emphasized that the grading criteria were strict: a student would only receive a grade for a correctly solved task, with no points awarded for incomplete or incorrect answers on the mathematics exam.
