This fire destroyed approximately 32,000 hectares of forest in Southern France. The incident required a sustained effort from firefighters over 16 days, running from June 27th through July 2nd. The current heat wave was reported to be more intense than previous major events, including the heat wave of 2003, which resulted in 15,000 recorded deaths.
