On Friday evening, officers from the VSAT Vilnius Border Guard Detachment Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department conducted an operation following intelligence received from Latvian counterparts. The investigation targeted a private estate located in the Upper Paneuries district of Vilnius. During the search, border guards inspected the property’s residential structure, associated agricultural buildings, and a Fiat Doblo car registered in Lithuania.
The search yielded a significant cache of illicit tobacco products. Authorities inventoried 12,821 packs comprising ten different types of cigarettes. Upon inspection, officials noted that the contraband was improperly documented; fewer than half of the packs possessed required excise stamps, while the remainder were marked with Belarusian banderoles.
The operation was conducted at the residence of a 62-year-old man. Preliminary assessments indicate that the total estimated value of the confiscated cigarettes, inclusive of all requisite Lithuanian taxation, amounts to nearly 70,000 euros. The discovery highlights ongoing efforts by border agencies to intercept illegal goods within the Vilnius region.
