Following the Narva City Council’s approval of land swaps with the state, preparations have commenced for the development of a new military town. The initial stage of construction is scheduled to accommodate 150 soldiers. Ando Voogma, the head of the Defense Investment Center project portfolio, confirmed that the primary military town will be constructed in a single, comprehensive phase.
Voogma indicated that work on this main facility is slated to begin by the end of the current year and is projected for completion in the summer of 2028. In addition to the permanent structure, a temporary container military town will also be established in Narva. This temporary housing unit is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2027.
The decision to proceed with these developments follows the necessary governmental agreements regarding land use. The phased approach ensures that immediate operational needs can be met while the long-term, permanent infrastructure for the military presence is developed over several years. The staggered construction timeline allows for the gradual integration of housing and facilities, starting with temporary accommodations before moving to the main, permanent town structure.
