On Sunday, the World Congress of Compassion will begin in Vilnius: it will bring together guests from more than 50 countries

Archbishop G. Grušas expressed satisfaction regarding the hosting of a significant global event in Lithuania. During the presentation, he welcomed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of the occasion for the community.

The event’s coordinator, Inesa Chaikauskienė, provided further details, noting that the congress is anticipated to draw participation from more than 50 countries. She highlighted the congress theme, “Building a city of mercy,” explaining its direct relevance to contemporary societal conditions. In her address, Chaikauskienė elaborated on the scope of the theme, stating that the concept of mercy extends beyond conventional interpersonal dynamics.

She said that the understanding of mercy must be examined in the context of modern urban life. “This theme is about the reality of mercy today,” she said. She further clarified that the notion of mercy has often been narrowly confined to the relationship between individuals, yet the reality of such connections within a city is complex and varied.

The discussions surrounding the gathering aim to explore how the principles embodied by mercy can be applied to civic life and community building on a large scale. The congress serves as a platform for global dialogue, encouraging participants to reassess their understanding of compassion and its role in shaping resilient urban environments. The successful organization of this international event underscores the commitment of the participating bodies to addressing deep-seated societal needs through shared ethical principles.
