On the State Day in Kaunas – a solemn celebration: the ceremony was crowned with the proclamation of honorary citizens

The festival commenced with a concert presented by the international event, “Operetė Kauno pilyje,” which gathered performers from both Lithuania and international locations. The evening began with a confluence of music and live performances, setting a prelude to a traditionally solemn moment: the collective singing of the “National Anthem” by Lithuanians worldwide at 9 pm. Addressing the attendees, Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis emphasized the connection between the citizenry and the nation’s strength.

He stated, “The state is strong as long as its people are strong. Kaunas is growing, changing, and becoming renowned, not solely for the projects it undertakes, but primarily because of the people who build the city with their talent, work, and ideas.”

The mayor concluded by extending gratitude to those individuals whose contributions have become integral to the history of Kaunas and serve as inspiration for future generations. The ceremony underscored a deep appreciation for the cultural creators who contribute to the city’s identity.

The event served as a tribute to the cultural bedrock of the community, blending artistic celebration with a profound civic acknowledgment of shared heritage and collective endeavor.
