One of the most beautiful places in Vilnius has long been untapped: now everything is different here

The existing pedestrian path was situated away from the river and ran alongside the heavy traffic on Žygimantų Street, limiting its appeal for people wishing to pause, sit, or observe the views of the Neris. Consequently, the current design did not encourage public interaction with the riverfront. To address these issues, solutions were developed with the goal of creating a pleasant, safe, and accessible Neris quay for all users.

As part of this revitalization effort, the pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure underwent comprehensive renewal. New recreation areas were established directly by the water’s edge, and the surrounding greenery was significantly arranged and supplemented with new plant compositions. These improvements collectively enhanced the functionality, aesthetics, and general appeal of the quay for both daily commuting and leisure activities.

A key aspect of this project is increasing public access and proximity to the water. The incorporation of new terraces, stairs, and dedicated recreation zones allows visitors to experience the Neris not merely as a backdrop to the city, but as an integrated, usable public space. The updated pedestrian amenities aim to transform the quay into a more inviting destination, improving the public’s connection with the river.
