According to one passenger speaking to the news agency dpa, the incident occurred during the flight, resulting in immediate injuries to nearby individuals. A witness provided details to the Greek broadcaster ERT, stating that another passenger’s head and shoulders were visible protruding through the broken window.
It was reported that other passengers quickly intervened, managing to pull the injured passenger back into the relative safety of the aircraft cabin. Visual evidence circulating on social media platforms showed the cabin descending while oxygen masks were deployed, and witnesses recounted that the passengers reacted with shouts amid the ensuing panic. Following the disruption, the flight did not proceed to its scheduled destination in Memingen, Germany.
Instead, the pilot diverted the aircraft, returning to Salonika airport. The return journey, necessitated by the incident, reportedly lasted approximately 20 minutes.
