Experts suggest that while parents typically monitor the duration children spend interacting with screens, attention must also be paid to the manner of use. Poor posture resulting from viewing screens can negatively impact a child’s developing physical structure. Renata Mingilė, a massage therapy specialist and head of the “Masažo miestas” study, noted that electronic devices often become constant companions for children, particularly during the summer months, increasing the risk of developing uneven posture.

Mingilė emphasized that the issue extends beyond mere screen time. She stated, “Long-term uneven posture, such as leaning forward and tilting the shoulders forward, can negatively affect a growing organism. Therefore, parents should focus not only on the amount of time their children use phones but critically on how they are using them.”

The guidance highlights a holistic approach to digital habits.

Beyond monitoring usage patterns, experts recommend incorporating small, regular physical breaks. For instance, simple, brief exercises can help mitigate common issues associated with prolonged screen use, such as neck strain. By addressing both the duration and the ergonomics of screen time, parents can better support the physical development of their children.

Maintaining proper posture requires consistent awareness from caregivers regarding the overall digital lifestyle of their young relatives.
