A pet burial site, identified as a cemetery, was discovered within a private forest located in the pine grove known as Šileliu, situated in the locality of Vietiniai Šileliu. Remigijus Budreika, the chairman of the Mielasiškės district, confirmed that the existence of the site predates his current tenure. Budreika stated that the cemetery was present when he assumed his duties seven years ago.
The district also addressed a separate incident involving an alleged illegal cemetery near the villages of Miežiškės and Nikolajevka, where a dispute occurred involving dogs. According to the chairman, the individual responsible for selecting the burial location for pets remains unknown, and the district has received no official complaints regarding such unauthorized cemeteries. Furthermore, the timing of the forest clearing was noted, as trees in the private forest in Šileliu were recently felled following damage caused by a storm.
The reports indicate that the existence of the cemetery within the private grounds was not a recent development. The district has maintained that it has not received prior complaints concerning these types of unauthorized pet burial sites.
