Public Prosecutor’s Office: Former policeman urinated on the uniform, defaced the coat of arms, he must be sentenced

The Vilnius District Court has announced that the prosecutor’s office has filed an appeal challenging an acquittal handed down to R. Ščerbinin by the Vilnius Regional District Court earlier this year. During proceedings, prosecutor R.

Matevičius argued before the court that Ščerbinin should be held guilty of desecrating state symbols and subjected to a fine of 4,200 euros. The core allegation against Ščerbinin involves an incident where he allegedly urinated on his uniform, subsequently filming the act and publishing the video online. In court, Prosecutor Matevičius emphasized that Ščerbinin had provided inconsistent accounts regarding the details of the incident.

Furthermore, the court reviewed testimony related to a separate matter concerning an “early morning” car rental incident. During this segment of the hearing, the defense lawyer pointed out that Ščerbinin’s initial statement to the court was that he had reached an agreement with a colleague regarding the matter. The filing of the appeal by the prosecutor’s office indicates a disagreement with the findings of the lower court.

The ongoing legal action will require the appellate court to re-examine the evidence and the conflicting testimonies presented throughout the proceedings. The focus remains on determining the appropriate legal accountability for the alleged actions and the discrepancies in the narrative provided by the former police officer.
