According to R. Kaunas speaking with “Radio News” on Thursday, a particular weapon system currently exists only as a prototype for the military. He indicated that operational deployment requires that the soldiers be trained on its use, as our forces have not yet utilized such weaponry in combat scenarios.
Kaunas referenced the Merops interceptor as an example of a system whose effectiveness is already demonstrated, citing an instance where the system successfully downed a Shahed drone. However, he emphasized that because the soldiers lack practical experience with the equipment, the immediate procurement strategy involves acquiring a trial batch. Following this initial purchase, comprehensive training for the personnel will be conducted.
Only after these training and evaluation phases will the necessary procurement documentation include the purchase of larger quantities. Furthermore, the minister added that efforts are underway to enhance the detection capabilities of the forces. The stated progression from prototype to full-scale integration hinges on practical field use and subsequent training milestones for our military personnel.
This phased approach aims to ensure that the weaponry is fully understood and mastered by the soldiers before large-scale acquisition is finalized.
