R. Kaunas does not agree with A. Kubiliaus criticism of air defense: our strategy is very clear

At a recent forum, differing views were presented regarding the current state and future direction of regional air defense capabilities. R. Kaunas stated that the region’s air defense strategy is well-defined, asserting that it is precisely coordinated with Ukrainian efforts, thereby ensuring operational effectiveness.

Conversely, Eurocommissar A. Kubilius, responsible for defense and space matters, expressed concern over the lack of a discernible, unified concept for bolstering Lithuania’s air defense systems, citing the increased frequency of Ukrainian drone incursions into Lithuanian airspace. According to the EC member, Lithuania should enhance regional solidarity and draw lessons from Ukraine’s experience to strengthen its national defense posture.

Kubilius also highlighted technological development in the region, noting that Latvian authorities have reportedly been developing sophisticated sonar or sound detection systems over the past year. These statements underscore a broader discussion among European policymakers regarding the necessary modernization of national defense infrastructure. The emphasis is on establishing a clear, coordinated framework for air defense that can meet escalating security challenges.

The dialogue suggests a regional push toward adopting advanced defensive technologies and enhancing interoperability between neighboring states to secure airspace.
