During a statement delivered in the Seimas on Tuesday, R. Kaunas addressed the status of an investigation into illegally seized data from a registry center (RC). Kaunas confirmed that the initial assessment of the seized content and the extent of the data damage is currently ongoing.
He stated that while priority risk areas have been identified, the full list of planned and ongoing remedial actions cannot be disclosed. He explained that releasing such details is necessary to safeguard the activities of the involved institutions and prevent creating further risks. Furthermore, the head of the Ministry of Defense stressed that he would refrain from commenting on interpretations circulating in the media, emphasizing that the information remains non-public.
These statements follow reports indicating a significant potential data breach. According to ELTA, it is suspected that more than 600,000 real estate register extracts may have been leaked from the RC during the period beginning in January. The estimated financial damage resulting from this potential leak is reported to be no less than 111,000 euros.
Kaunas maintained that until the full scope of the compromised data is determined, and comprehensive mitigation strategies are finalized, further details will remain confidential. He reiterated that the Ministry cannot comment on specifics that are not yet public knowledge.
