R. Vaikšnoras about the history of the acquisition of the Embraer aircraft: there was a very big misunderstanding

An army commander addressed the media on Thursday, stating that a significant misunderstanding exists regarding the military’s planning and budgetary allocations. According to the commander, prior to the decision to renew the fleet of military aircraft, the armed forces had allocated 150 million euros in the budget specifically for the modernization of transport aircraft designated as “Spartan.”

R. Vaikšnoras emphasized that the current situation necessitates replacing the existing “Spartan” fleet.

He cited two primary reasons for this urgency: the diminishing availability of spare parts and the increasingly outdated technology embedded within the current equipment. The commander suggested that the moment for this necessary replacement has arrived. In addition to the budgetary matters concerning the transport aircraft, the commander also addressed broader security concerns.

Regarding the actions of the US military in Lithuania, he stated that further information would become available in the near future. Furthermore, when discussing Lithuania’s defense posture, he affirmed the nation’s robust air defense capabilities. The discussion highlighted the ongoing strategic considerations surrounding the country’s defense infrastructure, emphasizing that certain aspects of the military’s operational capacity are robust, even as the necessary updates to key equipment are addressed.

The commander’s remarks aimed to clarify the historical context surrounding the modernization efforts and the current needs of the armed forces.
