During an interview with ELTA on Thursday, S. Bartkus detailed the comprehensive analysis conducted regarding the potential utilization of a specific building. The review encompassed numerous possibilities for incorporating various functions, including a retail store, a coworking space, a museum, and a food court.
While Bartkus acknowledged that some of these features might be necessary for the site’s development, he concluded that, given the existing elements that must be preserved, the structure is currently considered not worth purchasing. Bartkus indicated that the final determination regarding the building’s future course of action will rest with the incoming board and its members. He elaborated on prior strategic hopes, noting that the team had anticipated finding a solution that would align with a timeline involving the completion of the arrival terminal by 2028.
Such a completion was viewed as a key opportunity to facilitate a self-investment strategy for the property. The primary goal of these assessments was to enhance the overall appeal of the Vilnius Airport. Bartkus stated that the airport is continually being improved, citing the opening of new spaces as evidence of ongoing development.
The current evaluation suggests that while significant potential exists, the immediate acquisition of the building is problematic. The focus now shifts to the strategic planning of the new board, which will guide subsequent investments to ensure the airport remains an attractive destination.
