Latvian authorities have issued alerts regarding the safety of poultry products originating from Lithuania. Specifically, a report concerning fresh chicken fillets from the country revealed the presence of Salmonella Newport. Investigations into the matter, including tracing the affected product through potential distribution channels, are currently ongoing.
The VMVT has advised consumers who may have purchased unsafe items not to consume them and to return the product to the point of sale. The poultry sector is currently facing broader economic pressures, with farmers reporting concerns over rising food costs and the impact of fertilizer supply issues. These alerts follow previous safety concerns.
Earlier in June, marinated chicken shanks from a specific manufacturer were found to contain Salmonella Infantis. Subsequently, chicken breasts prepared in Greek sauce were also recalled after testing found both Salmonella Infantis and Salmonella Newport. At the time of those alerts, the contaminated product had been supplied to three different Lithuanian retail chains.
The continuous monitoring of these products highlights ongoing public health vigilance. Authorities are actively managing the recall process to ensure that any potentially contaminated product is removed from the market. The focus remains on tracing the source and preventing further circulation of items where Salmonella contamination has been found.
