Seimas – proposal on careers: considers new restrictions

During a recent session, amendments to the Earth’s subsurface law received support from 38 members of the seimas, while 17 members did not cast a vote. The legislative process dictates that the proposal will next be reviewed by the seimas’ Environment Committee, subsequently evaluated by the Government, before being reintroduced for discussion at the plenary session during the autumn session commencing in September. The amendment was initiated by Audrius Radvilavičius, a Social Democrat and member of the Environment Committee.

In addition to the core changes, Radvilavičius proposed an adjustment to the mandated 300-meter buffer distance from buildings. This reduction would be permissible only if the written consent of the property owners is obtained. However, any revised distance must not fall below a minimum threshold of 30 meters.

Furthermore, the proposal stipulates that no additional owner consent will be required if the property ownership changes hands. The primary objective of these amendments is to establish precise and clear regulatory requirements governing mining plots across the nation. Radvilavičius, who spearheaded the legislative effort, is receiving support from other members of the Environment Committee as they work to refine the necessary changes to the existing law.
