Seimo ethics guards will investigate the statements of V. Šeršnev, who called Lithuanian soldiers “idiots”, as he was called by them

The Ethics Commission has initiated an investigation regarding remarks made by parliamentarian V. Šeršnev. According to Viktor Fedorov, Chairman of the EPK, the investigation is underway, and the individuals responsible for drafting the final conclusions have been appointed.

Fedorov stated on Tuesday that the draft conclusions are expected within several weeks, after which the Ethics Commission will convene to determine if a violation occurred. The lawsuit centers on statements allegedly made by Šeršnev on June 16, 2012. The incident took place during the western session of the Seimas while discussions were focused on amendments to the Control of Weapons and Ammunition.

The complaint asserts that Šeršnev made remarks deemed unethical concerning the military and the service members. Specifically, the lawsuit cites the use of terms such as “idiots” and “not very adequate persons.”

The legal action claims that these public statements constitute a breach of the Code of Conduct applicable to State Politicians. The Commission’s review process is designed to assess whether these specific words violate established standards of professional ethics.

Following the preparation of the draft conclusions, the Commission will hold a meeting to issue a formal ruling regarding the alleged misconduct.
