The General Prosecutor’s Office, in conjunction with the Special Investigations Service (SST), has issued a statement detailing preliminary findings regarding financial irregularities. The investigation centers on A. Sireika, who served as a member of the Šiauliai City Council between 2019 and 2023.
According to the initial inquiry, Mr. Sireika is alleged to have misused his official capacity while serving on the council. Specifically, the investigation points to discrepancies within expense reports and advance receipts submitted for his activities as a city council member.
The core allegation involves the submission of documentation concerning fuel costs, which investigators suggest may have contained information that did not accurately reflect reality. These discrepancies have led to the preliminary determination that Mr. Sireika may have caused a financial detriment to the Šiauliai City Council administration, amounting to 3,072 euros.
The announcement serves to inform the public and the relevant administrative bodies about the scope of the financial review. The findings indicate that the authorities are treating the matter as a potential abuse of public office. The investigation remains preliminary, meaning that these are the findings at this stage of inquiry.
The involvement of both the General Prosecutor’s Office and the SST suggests a formal review of accountability procedures within the local governing structure. The outcome of this review will determine the final conclusions regarding the financial damage and the actions required from the city administration concerning Mr. Sireika.
