Survey: the absolute majority of Lithuanians support the country’s membership in NATO

A recent survey of Lithuanians indicates strong public support for maintaining the country’s membership within the Alliance. Specifically, 91% of respondents stated they would vote for Lithuania to remain a member of the organization. Furthermore, a significant majority, 75%, believe that continued membership in the Alliance mitigates the risk of the nation facing an attack.

The findings also highlighted public concern regarding national defense. A substantial 79% of respondents consider defense investments to be either important or very important for the security of the country. This sentiment is reflected in the financial support shown, with 72% of those surveyed agreeing with maintaining or increasing current defense funding levels.

In response to these indicators, the Ministry noted that Lithuania has substantially increased its defense investments in recent years. The Ministry stated that these proactive measures have been positively received by international partners, who have increasingly recognized the nation as a model member of NATO. The data suggests a strong alignment between public opinion, perceived security needs, and the government’s commitment to bolstering national defense capabilities within the Alliance framework.
