During a recent meeting concerning the Meno kūrėjų asociacija (LMKA), delegates expressed significant distrust in the organization’s current president, J. Staselis, leading to calls for his removal from office. The proceedings culminated in a vote where the conference secretary, Vilma Samulionytė, from the Lithuanian Photographers’ Union, confirmed the results.
According to Samulionytė, 16 conference participants voted in favor of the decision, while three participants abstained. She also noted that two individuals, including J. Staselis, did not participate in the vote.
The underlying tension surrounding the leadership of the Lithuanian photographic community remains prominent. Following the expressed distrust at the recent conference, the LMKA is scheduled to hold another extraordinary conference on July 15. This upcoming assembly is intended to elect a new president for the association.
The controversy involving Staselis has drawn attention beyond the association itself. Previously, police declined to initiate an investigation into complaints filed by Staselis regarding the conduct of LRT journalists. These various developments underscore a period of transition and scrutiny within the organization.
The outcome of the upcoming conference will determine the future leadership structure of the LMKA.
