Lithuanian border authorities conducted an inspection of an international train traveling through the country on Monday evening. Officers from the VSAT Pagėgiai Border Guard District of the Šiauliai Border Post checked the Riga-Vilnius train as it traversed the Joniškis-Šiauliai route, an action taken to prevent unauthorized secondary migration into Lithuania. During the inspection, border guards identified three out of 97 passengers who were not in possession of the required documentation necessary for entry into Lithuania.
The individuals in question, a 23-year-old Moroccan citizen and his 17-year-old compatriot, presented authorities with Latvian asylum seeker certificates and a digital photograph of the minor’s mobile phone. Officials determined that these documents did not constitute valid travel authorization for entering Lithuania. Upon the train’s arrival at the Šiauliai railway station, the VSAT officers disembarked the three Moroccan citizens and escorted them to the Pagėgiai Border Guard District for further processing.
The operation highlights the ongoing monitoring efforts at the Lithuanian border.
