A warning flag was displayed at the beach on Sunday, prohibiting swimming following an incident. While several children were successfully retrieved to the shore, the 42-year-old man who entered the water subsequently disappeared. According to initial police reports, the man observed his two teenage children moving away from the shoreline.
He reacted by jumping into the water in an attempt to bring them back. Sebastian Kluska from the Maritime Search and Rescue Service noted that the incident began with the man’s rescue effort. He stated that both the man and his brother entered the water.
Apparently undeterred by the risk, the man recorded the event as a heroic act. Although the children were brought safely back to shore, the rescuer himself could not be recovered. Attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful.
The coast was reportedly crowded with people, reflecting the intense summer heat experienced at the beaches.
