The behavior of some teenagers operating vehicles has drawn considerable attention from drivers, particularly on the main roads of Klaipėda’s outskirts, an area known for difficult traffic conditions during peak hours. Karina Novikova, the mayor of Klaipėda’s Sendvar district, stated that the concerning instances began as soon as the weather cooled. She noted that the district had submitted a letter to the police in May, urging increased attention to the situation.
Recent incidents underscore the public concern. On June 25, a 16-year-old boy was killed in an accident involving an electric bicycle. Consequently, residents of Sendvar have publicly petitioned law enforcement and the mayor’s office regarding the perceived lack of control over the conduct of some teenagers on the roads.
Last week, local residents captured footage of two teenagers near the end of Liepju gatve in Klaipėda. One individual was seen operating a scooter while the other was riding a powerful electric bicycle. The filming of the cyclist also drew significant attention.
The recurring nature of these concerning turns in behavior suggests a need for greater enforcement and public awareness regarding the safety of motorized transport among younger individuals in the area.
