The case of the students who were trammed in a Vilnius trolleybus station has been sent to court a year ago

A preliminary investigation into a traffic incident that occurred on July 3, 2025, in Vilnius, has established preliminary findings regarding the cause of the accident. The incident took place on Žirmūnų street when a vehicle, operated by a local resident, was traveling at an estimated speed of 60 km/h. Investigators determined that the driver failed to adhere to necessary safety precautions while driving.

Specifically, the vehicle reportedly changed direction sharply toward the right side of the carriageway, resulting in a collision with the pavement. The accident resulted in severe casualties. One young girl, who was born in 2005, was killed when the vehicle struck her.

Additionally, another pedestrian, also born in 2005, sustained minor injuries. Data collected during the ongoing investigation suggests that the actions of the vehicle’s driver, coupled with violations of established Road Traffic Regulations, were the direct cause of the tragedy. Video evidence recorded at the scene further corroborated these findings, capturing the moment the car struck the pedestrian at a designated stop.

Authorities are reviewing the footage to build a comprehensive case file. The focus of the inquiry remains on the operational conduct of the driver. The investigation underscores the critical importance of maintaining safe driving practices and respecting the safety of all pedestrians within the urban environment.

Authorities continue to analyze the sequence of events to determine the full scope of regulatory breaches.
