The city of Kratos bore fruit – the police found huge amounts of illegal goods

The Klaipėda County Police Commissioner reported that an investigation was launched in the port city following intelligence suggesting potential unlawful trade of excise-duty-liable goods. This investigation, which involved local prosecutors, commenced in June. The focus of the inquiry was the illicit disposal of various commodities subject to excise tax, specifically alcoholic beverages and cigarettes.

During the course of their examination of the received information, Klaipėda criminal investigators conducted a search within the port area in mid-June. The operation resulted in the seizure of a significant volume of items. Authorities confiscated nearly 4,000 liters of diverse alcoholic beverages.

Furthermore, investigators recovered 217 blocks of cigarettes. A key finding during the seizure was that a portion of these cigarettes lacked the required government-mandated banderoles, while others bore markings originating from third-country sources, raising concerns about compliance. In addition to the regulated goods, the police also seized over 900 euros in currency, along with several electronic cigarettes and associated liquid supplies.

The comprehensive nature of the sweep underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb illegal trade within the region. The findings suggest systematic attempts to circumvent excise duties through the unauthorized movement and sale of taxable commodities within the port city.
