The Commander of the Armed Forces: interceptor prototypes for drone acquisition will be received in the late summer or fall

According to R. Vaikšnoras, an army commander, the development and integration of interceptor systems designed to neutralize incoming objects, particularly drones such as the Shahed type, are progressing through established acquisition channels. Vaikšnoras stated to “Radio News” on Thursday that while he does not personally manage the procurement process, a plan is in place to facilitate the testing of several prototypes by the end of the summer.

He indicated that these newly acquired capabilities are intended to bolster the nation’s defensive arsenal, ensuring readiness should any security incident occur. Regarding the timeline, Vaikšnoras projected that these defensive assets could be fully integrated into the operational inventory by the end of the summer, potentially extending into the early autumn months, assuming all scheduled acquisition processes proceed as planned. The commander emphasized that the successful integration of these advanced systems is crucial.

Beyond simply being available in the arsenal, these new defensive means must be thoroughly integrated into the existing, overall air defense network to ensure comprehensive operational capability. The focus remains on establishing robust countermeasures against aerial threats, solidifying the defensive posture against drone incursions through systematic testing and deployment of new technology.
