Situated on the Atlantic coast within a wooded and rocky environment, the building is initially discreet, appearing almost invisible within the dense forest. The structure only reveals itself upon deeper exploration into the plot and along the shoreline. The architects’ primary objective was to ensure the residence did not dominate the natural surroundings but rather integrated seamlessly with them.
The house was designed for a couple from Montreal seeking a more secluded lifestyle close to nature. Architecturally, the design spans between two slopes, functioning almost as a bridge that connects them, allowing the natural landscape to flow freely underneath the structure. This approach successfully preserved the complex character of the rocky terrain, creating the illusion that the entire house is suspended above the valley floor.
A particularly notable feature of the project is the mansard roof. Its unique contours are engineered to mirror the natural irregularities of the landscape. In some areas, the roof rises above the surrounding rocks, while in others, it dips below, contributing to a sense of comfortable integration.
The overall design prioritizes harmony, allowing the architecture to complement the rugged beauty of its coastal setting rather than imposing upon it.
