Three men have been charged with murder following the death of Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, aged 21. Luis Felipe Feliciano Egoroff, 32, Vitor de Freitas Goncalves, 27, and Maicon Fernandes Cintra, 42, were arrested on June 14, the day after the incident occurred at the abandoned “Ponte do Esqueleto” (Skeleto tilto). During a trial held on that date, the three alleged rope-climbing instructors received custodial sentences.
The incident involved the victim being pushed off the structure, which was noted for its lack of an attached safety net. According to reports, Bosnia and Herzegovina organized an extreme event where participants performed jumps from a 20-meter-high waterfall. Two of the men implicated told investigators that they had “lost their minds” and could not recall whether the safety net was attached during the activity.
A Brazilian journalist reported to the O Globo newspaper that the men “claimed not to remember where and when the mistake occurred.” The charges against the instructors stem from the circumstances surrounding the victim being pushed off the elevated structure.
