A new 2.05 euro postage stamp, featuring Karl Schmidt-Rottluff’s 1937 painting, “Dünental with a dead tree” (Dünental mit totem Baum), has been issued in an edition of 50,000 copies. The first day of cancellation for the stamp is scheduled for August 6th at the Neringa post office, located at Taikos g. 13 in Nida.
Aušrutė Varnienė, head of philatelic projects at the Lithuanian Post, commented on the release, stating that the stamp serves as a reminder of how culture and art can unite nations despite historical divisions. She expressed satisfaction with this joint project with the German post, noting its emphasis on the historical importance of the Nida artists’ colony within the context of European art. Furthermore, she indicated that the initiative aims to strengthen the cultural dialogue between Lithuania and Germany.
