Prime Minister I. Ruginienė emphasized that this plan is the direct outcome of significant cooperation between scientists and various academic institutions.
She commended the collaboration, describing it as an exceptional effort involving the government, institutional bodies, and the scientific community dedicated to preserving the state’s historical memory. The working group’s findings indicated that despite the Basilica’s profound symbolic importance, systematic scientific research into the site has historically been insufficient. To address this gap, the newly formulated plan proposes five distinct areas of focused research.
These proposed directions are designed to provide a comprehensive academic framework for understanding and safeguarding the site. The first crucial area designated for study is historical and source research, which will underpin subsequent conservation and management efforts.
