Multiple incidents involving fire were reported across Kaunas recently. Authorities responded to an incident at the former Kaunas Central Post Office, where initial reports indicated a window was burning within the reconstructed structure. Firefighting units, alongside police and medical personnel, were dispatched to the scene.
According to representatives from the Kaunas Fire Rescue Department, the fire was successfully extinguished around 14:20, after which the building was thoroughly searched. Separately, another fire incident occurred in Vievis. In this case, ground-level insulation material at a local storage facility ignited, with paraffin suspected as the source.
Firefighters managed to control and extinguish the blaze, and the building was subsequently searched by relevant authorities. These incidents take place against the backdrop of ongoing redevelopment in the city. The reconstruction of the Kaunas Central Post Office building is being managed by the company “Ekstra Statyba,” which secured the contract through a competition hosted by the Cultural Infrastructure Center (CIC).
Construction work commenced earlier this year and is currently scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
